Under the Sea ~ Ocean in a Bottle

We present to you...

 

Kanyon's Ocean in a Bottle!

This was a fun and super easy Mommy & Me craft to make.

 

Supplies Needed:

1. Empty Bottle (I used a glass one...next time Plastic! duh..can't let him run wild with glass throughout the house...but it did turn out pretty!)
2. Water
3. Oil - recipes I came across used clear oil, like Baby/Mineral Oil, but we only had Vegetable oil on hand, it worked great for us
4. Blue Food Coloring to tint the water like an Ocean

 I started off with 1/4 cup of oil, then filled the bottle 2/3 with water, I added more oil later...using a total of 1/2 cup of oil. (if you use smaller bottle, use less. fill 1/3 with oil, 2/3 with water)

 Then add drops of food coloring until you get the desired shade of blue.. (if your kiddo will be using the bottle without supervision, hot glue the lid onto the bottle, so that they can't open it).

 Pretty..makes me crave a trip to the Beach!

 Hand over the Ocean in a Bottle to the best helper ever. And let the bubbly fun begin. It ends up being like a lava lamp effect. Everytime you flip the bottle upside down then right side up, the bubbles float to the top.

 We ended up playing it safe with the glass bottle and spent the majority of our time rolling it back and forth on the floor to watch 'the waves roll in'. Fun!

I may make Round 2 of the Ocean in a Bottle, with a plastic water bottle instead so that he can carry it around the house and play with it more.
