Cocoa Puff

Kelby has been on a mission to find a puppy to add to our growing family. He had been wanting a Great Dane, then he decided he'd prefer a Lab. A Chocolate Lab. Then a Yellow Lab. Poor thing, he wants a dog so bad, he'll settle on the color, I'd settle on none or small as possible, but I'm a wife who loves to make her hubby happy, and I fully understand that any toddling boy would be more than happy to grow up with a doggie best pal tagging along at his side.

Well, Paige happened across a FREE female Lab Puppy...Chocolate in color. A friend gave it to her, not sure of the age or the background, but a pretty dog, that low and behold met the wants of the Hubby. So, we went over to Paige's house, watched the dog run back and forth for a few minutes, then took it home for a "trial" visit. Depending on it's demeanor...hyper or calm, and seeing how Kanyon took to having a knee-high pup bugging him would determine the dog's fate...pound or for keeps.

The first few minutes of entering our calm household, the dog knocked Kanyon over into the wall (grr!) but it was just trying to play with him. Then it ran right on top of his back as he was laying his tent, minding his own business, which led to a frightening scream from my little man. Let's just say, Mommy wasn't feeling the bigger pup scaring my boy situation.

But labs are great family dogs, and with time and training, it became apparent that the playful pup was given permission to become part of the Robinson family. We named her Cocoa Puff (for the purpose of hearing Kanyon yell it out).
We brought her home on Monday, August 22nd, and sadly, by Wednesday, we could tell the puppy was sick with something. She wouldn't eat or drink. And when she was in the backyard, and we opened the door, she just continued laying in one spot, not even raising her head to see what the noise was. Very sad. We were trying to arrange getting her to the pound on Thursday, for them to put her to sleep, but schedules weren't making that possible.

By Friday, she was foaming at the mouth. Alot. Heartbreaking. A very sick dog was on our hands. My poor hubby, being the country boy that he is and having a history of many, many aging/sick/dying past pets in his life, knew what had to be done. He took the suffering pup out the deer lease and ended her misery. So, long story short, we had a pup for about one minute. Think that she got Parvo Virus. And now we are non-pet-owners for the time being.

Kelby is still on the lookout for a Lab. Yellow or Chocolate. So, we shall see what the future holds for this family of 3. (had to put fam of 3, bc in no time at all we'll be a total of 4!)
